The Kilkenny Castle vase - 2008 Belleek Edition Piece - takes its inspiration from the historical landmark of the same name. Originally erected by Richard DeClare (better known as Strongbow) along the River Sir in 1172, the castle saw many different owners through the ensuing decades. In 1967, Arthur Butler, the 6th Marques and 24th Earl of Ormond, sold the castle for the nominal sum of £50 to the castle restoration committee. Since then, much of the castle has been restored to its original state, and today remains one of the foremost visitor attractions in the region. This 2008 Edition Piece is a limited edition, and features a "hidden shamrock," as well as an exclusive trade stamp and personalized signature of its designer, Catherine Townshend.
